In 1979, the German
Friesian Horse Breeding Registry, Friesenpferde-Zuchtverband e.V. (FPZV)
was established. Since that time, the FPZV has encouraged the breeding and development of the Friesian for
sport.
The first Friesian to compete, and to do so with such tremendous success, at the Grand Prix level of
Dressage, was the FPZV registered mare Bold Contender (Jelsche), followed shortly by the Approved German Friesian
stallion Jorrit.

The Friesian Horse Society (FHS) was established in 1993
as a European North American affiliate organization. FHS evolved to become an Independent North American Registry in
2007. The primary goal of FHS is education in breeding, protecting and expanding the performance
and beauty of the Friesian breed. With this in mind FHS focused on the rules of the KFPS (official European Mother
Studbook for the Friesian Horse) and in 2007 FHS also partnered with the European Arabo-Friesian Sport horse
