 MEET the REGISTRIES

The Friesian Horse Society (FHS) was established in 1993 as a European North American affiliate organization. FHS evolved to become an Independent North American Registry in 2007. The primary goal of FHS is education in breeding, protecting and expanding the performance and beauty of the Friesian breed. With this in mind FHS focused on the rules of the KFPS (official European Mother Studbook for the Friesian Horse) and in 2007 FHS also partnered withm the European Arabo-Friesian Sport horse Association (EAFS) giving the American public access to the newly recognized Arabo-Friesian breed. The Arabo-Friesian is a unique blend of Friesian and Arabian blood, developed to add additional stamina and resilience while maintaining the physical characteristics of the Friesian. Due to the request and vote of the membership, FHS is now facilitating registration for Friesian cross horses for its members with EAFS, in their studbook, in accordance with their Breeding Book Regulations. FHS provides numerous services and benefits to its members including:

• Registration and Inspection Tours for Friesians, Arabo-Friesian’s and Friesian cross’s. Annual Inspections are hosted by our members throughout the country to evaluate the performance and beauty of their horses. Strengths and weaknesses, based upon clearly defined qualities, are evaluated with a standardized, quantitative score. We provide qualified, experienced judges and an electronic scoring tool which we believe minimizes human bias and provides objective scores for our members.

• FHS is the only Friesian registry granted the Universal Equine Life Number(UELN) to register the Friesian horse in the United States and Canada. UELN (see www.ueln.net) establishes FHS as a world recognized registry. All Breed registries that wish to participate in the International recognition that a UELN provides, have a UELN for their breed. The UELN insures your FHS registered Friesian can be uniquely identified throughout the world! Registries participating in the UELN have the ability to exchange important data concerning the horses such as the pedigree, owner, breeder, etc.

• EU Passports are available for all horses registered through FHS. USEF now requires Passports on all horses competing at International level competitions (FEI events). The option of buying a passport for a foal at registration time can save members hundreds of dollars when compared to application from USEF later in the horse’s lifetime.

• FHS is a participating Organization in the USDF All Breeds Awards program. Our members can be awarded 5 certificates (the maximum allowed by USDF) in every division/level. The owner must be a current member in good standing with FHS and the horse must be registered with FHS. FHS accepts other (foreign and national) registration papers, but they must be transferred into the FHS database.

• FHS Registered horses are recognized by USEF, USDF and IFSHA.

• FHS also offers a “Certificate” to owners of horses with questionable parentage who are known to have some Friesian blood. A DNA test is performed which confirms and qualifies the % of Friesian blood in a horse. The Certificate is provided after the results confirm the presence of Friesian blood.

• Friesian Brief Newsletter is available electronically to our members each month. This provides informative, enjoyable and educational information for all our members.

• E-group for FHS members was recently added by popular demand. This is a positive environment to discuss any and all topics relevant to our members without risk of ridicule or judgment. All topics are open and respect for different views is encouraged.

• Free Website Classified Advertising for our members.

The Friesian Horse Society’s availability to its members and its dedication to serving them and listening to their needs is unparalleled. We are proud to be involved in the preservation and promotion of this majestic and noble breed! FHS has grown and transitioned from the early stages as an Affiliate Association to its present day status of an internationally recognized registry; making it the premiere registry for Friesian Horse owners. We are a growing and thriving registry working hard to serve our members and promote our beautiful horses.
If you are dreaming of the perfect registry, look no farther than the Friesian Horse Society. We know all things Friesian!
